Ready to cook!!!? Cookbooks!

Finally! I have bought some books that aren't pop-ups or coloring books. Yep, cookbooks!
I bought "The Everyday Vegan'' by Dreena Burton
AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The BabyCakes cookbook by Erin McKenna!! If you know me, you know that I'm slightly obsessed with BabyCakes NYC. The bakery in downtown LA is probably my favorite place in the world. Who knows if I'll ever get a chance to visit the one in New York, but I'm thankful and happy for the LA bakery!!

I can't wait to start making stuff!!! It might take me some time to actually make something from either book, but who knows...it might not. If you can't tell by my use of exclamation marks, I am exited and anxious to read the books and get started with the whole cooking/baking thing. I've never cooked/baked so we'll see how things turn out.. Wish me luck.
By the way, I saw this ("Hollywood Ho Ho'') at the LA BabyCakes bakery (while purchasing the book) and couldn't help myself to buy it... (and a biscuit with jam, AND a chocolate glazed doughnut)....
It  was like having chocolate cake x2. It was so good, I started ho-ho-ho ing like Santa Claus.

Here, have an extra picture. (My Favorite things from the bakery) Biscuit with jam and Chocolate glazed doughnut!!
(I like this picture so much, I made it my Twitter background) booyah!

Hey Mac: Mac And Cheeza

!!!!!!!!!!!!!Read Revisited "review" here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've wanted something cheesy for some time (food-wise) now and I heard of this place in downtown Los Angeles. Mac And Cheeza. This little food place makes mac and cheese however you want it. You start off by choosing a size(silly ,but kinda funny names), then you can order regular or rice noodles and either, soy cheese(vegan) or regular cheese. You can then add a bunch of veggies or meats (they have a vegan "veggie sausage'') and top it off with more cheese or spicy toasted walnuts.

I got a baby mac with soy cheese and mushrooms.

huh?
There you go.
So cheeesyyyyyyy!

My vegan baby mac with mushrooms was good. It could be better. The soy cheese doesn't really taste like cheese (there are other vegan cheeses they could try!) It smelled good though..
It's great that I can now eat vegan mac and cheese in downtown! Maybe next time I should add more veggies? Again, could be better, but it was still good. My sister tried a non vegan version and liked it, so maybe it's just the "vegan'' mac that needs just a little bit of more cheeseeeee!!!!

The staff seemed nice. It was a bit quiet when I was there. A little too quiet, I wanted to start singing some kind of tv show theme song to makes things more comfortable (or un-comfortable) for everyone .... and also

good thing I brought my mac n cheese home because...I didn't know where to sit?  The white bench? or those black things? Maybe the floor would have been more comfortable. IDK

I need a cookbook!!!!

I am in need of a VEGAN cookbook. Yep, I don't know how to cook anything and I really want to learn. If anyone knows of a cookbook that has tons of recipes and good for beginners, let me know in the comments or shoot me an e-mail? Please? I can't keep buying tofu and eating straight out of the package.

Oh,I made this on paint to accompany this post. It would look naked without a picture. I'm sorry.

BabyCakesNYC birthday cake!!!

For some reason, UrbanSpoon Links this page as my "review" for babycakes... So if you're coming from there, read my FULL review for BabyCakes NYC in Los Angeles HERE!

Know whose birthday it was yesterday? That's right, mine. If you know me (or have read my tweets) you probably know that I think BabyCakesNYC is pretty awesome. And that I think it's the best thing to happen to L.A. I'm like an Apple fan, just waiting for the next batch of stuff to try. I've tried almost everything BabyCakes has to offer at the bakery, and can't wait to see (and taste) what else they'll come up with in the future! If they need a taste tester, I'll gladly taste stuff!

Ever since I first visited BabyCakes, I knew I wanted a birthday cake from them...and I got it!

What I got was a 6" carrot cake with vanilla (and some chocolate) frosting!

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure (Try not to drool):

I wonder what's inside this sexy pink box!
You guessed it! Carrot cake! Hooray!!!

LOOK at it. Isn't it amazing!!?? Tell me that it is amazing!

Yep. My name has NEVER looked so delicious. (huh?)

Oh! and look who else made it to the party. Hello there Biscuit with Jam.
Because I couldn't just have birthday cake from BabyCakes on my birthday. MMMM Biscuit.

This was the best birthday cake ever! REALLY!!! I want BabyCakes to make my wedding cake too!!! except...that probably won't be for a while. I would have to start by finding a girlfriend first, and at least a couple of years of a happy, fun, rocking relationship, no?
anyway...

Thanks to BabyCakesNYC -LA- for the amazing cake. Everyone loved it and of course, I thought it tasted out-of-this-world good. Ordering was a piece of cake! (pun intended) (Thanks to Jennifer Frizzell and everyone who worked on the cake) everything came out like I imagined and wanted it to.

Souplantation, Anyone?

A few days ago, I had lunch at Souplantation. I had never been to one, so I was pretty exited. I checked out their website to see what vegan stuff they had before going. The wesbsite listed that there were a couple salads and soups that were vegan so I was ok.
When you get there, you are faced with the salad bar, and I loved it. I went crazy with all sorts of veggies. When I got to the soups...I noticed that there weren't any vegan ones! All I ate was veggies and fruits, and while it might sound bland...I was ok with it. (Really. I love vegetables and fruits. They're my best friends.) It was disapointing that I didn't try any vegan soups, but what can you do. There's always next time (and other souplantations!)

The workers were nice though, and the atmosphere was great. The music wasn't too loud either!

C'mon Souplantation. Have some vegan stuff for me next time...Or I will not be happy! >:(
Don't make me make my own soups!

I went to this Souplantation:

I want my Mama!: Mama's Hot Tamales Cafe

++UPDATE: REVISITED "REVIEW". click HERE to read it and like it... :D++

Recently, My family and I had lunch at Mama's Hot Tamales Cafe. I had read about them on other blogs, and I learned that they are VERY vegan friendly.

Inside, this place is decorated with very bright colors, newspaper clippings on them, and a lot of art. It's all nice and all,but on to the food...

I must say, I was impressed with all the vegan options they had. I knew they were vegan friendly, but WOW!!!!

I ordered the Nopales salad, black bean and herb tamale, and a vegan torta. While we waited for our food, we drank our horchatas. It had been a while since I drank some good horchata and I was happy to know that it was vegan. All their drinks are!

Nopales salad: Grilled nopale with pico de gallo and Daiya cheese! I had never tasted anything like this before. It tasted a little salty, but not too salty, just right. I enjoyed it and I wanted more. I miss it. :(

Black bean and herb tamale: This tamale was very good. I recommend you have this! Black beans + herbs = yum.

Torta: WOW. I wasn't expecting it to be so...big! It looked like a brain. An edible, tasty brain! I didn't eat this at the Cafe because I was full after I ate the tamale, so it came home with me.

Yes, that is everything the torta had. Tomato, tofu, rice, beans, and daiya cheese! I had to cut it in half. This is what a torta should taste like. Other tortas, you suck!
My family ordered the non-vegan versions of the enchiladas, and some other stuff. I forgot. I was too busy enjoying my food, but they all liked what they had.
The server was also really nice. I bet the other servers are also just as nice. Mama herself was there too! She seemed nice :)
Mama's is perfect for vegans and non vegans! Everyone who likes mexican food should give this place a try! It'll make you scream for your mommy! (for a good reason)
